NO GAS, NO OIL, NO COAL
Munich/Düsseldorf, 5 October 2022: Reinhard Müller, CEO EUREF AG, presented the community concept of the EUREF-Campus Düsseldorf at EXPO REAL in the presence of Dr Stephan Keller, Lord Mayor of the state capital Düsseldorf, for a holistically sustainable future location that will meet the German government’s CO2 climate targets for 2045 from the outset and in the long term through intelligent architecture, the use of renewable energy sources, new energy storage systems and the consistent networking of state-of-the-art technology.
Among those present were Julien Mounier, CEO Stadtwerke Düsseldorf, as well as representatives of well-known tenants such as Stefan Klepzig, Strategic Sales Director of Schneider Electric Energy & Sustainability Services, Karl-Hainz Mair, Managing Director International Klüh Multiservices, Markus Holzke, CEO SPIE Germany & Central Europe, and Matthias Jacob, Country President Germany of the general contractor IMPLENIA Holding GmbH, which was commissioned with the construction.
EUREF AG Management Board member Karin Teichmann sees great potential for innovation in the new EUREF-Campus: “From as early as 2024, the brightest minds in companies, start-ups and scientific institutions will be working together on the EUREF-Campus Düsseldorf, researching the topics of energy, mobility, environmental protection and climate protection technology, developing ideas for the future and testing their implementation. Today, we are demonstrating that the challenges of creating a CO2-neutral place of the future can only be mastered together as a community through consistent networking and the use of state-of-the-art technology: From planning and construction to operation. In this context, we would also like to thank the NRW state government and the economic development agency for their intensive cooperation.”
Dr Stephan Keller, Lord Mayor of the state capital Düsseldorf: “With the creation of the EUREF-Campus, Düsseldorf’s energy transition strategy will continue to be significantly advanced. As a lively place in a central location, the EUREF-Campus will be another important starting point for climate-friendly urban development.”
With the EUREF-Campus Düsseldorf, EUREF AG is building another international showcase for the energy and mobility transition with a total gross floor area of around 105,000 m2 and 719 parking spaces in an underground car park. Sustainability and innovations relating to energy, climate protection technology, environmental protection and mobility are the cornerstones of the new sustainability and innovation campus, which already meets the highest energy standards from planning to operation and realises holistic sustainability solutions with an all-round view of climate protection. In future, start-ups, companies, associations and scientific institutions will work hand in hand on more than 80,000 square metres. Together with tenants such as Schneider Electric GmbH, SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa GmbH and the state organisation for energy and climate protection NRW.Energy4Climate, the climate-friendly construction of the campus will be complemented by comprehensive, sustainable operation of the site for the future. This will create a vibrant future location for the energy transition – which is exemplary thanks to a high-tech energy centre – with the integration of the adjacent quarry pond for thermal supply and the use of renewable energies.
The green innovation campus will be built in two phases. Section I will be ready for occupancy by mid-2024, section II by mid-2025. The neighbouring Mobility Hub is designed as a testing and start-up platform for new forms of mobility and also serves as a transfer point for commuters and passengers. One highlight will be the planned Skyport, a take-off and landing site for air taxis and delivery drones. Tenants in the Mobility Hub will further develop their mobility concepts and products here and present them in showrooms.
The EUREF-Campus concept also includes an indoor garden, event and function areas for guests from politics, business and science, for example, as well as an extensive gastronomic offering with regional cuisine and bistros under the direction of top chef Cornelia Poletto.
